One of the in-state players that is solidly on the Michigan State recruiting radar is Livonia Churchill’s Jamal Allen. The 6-foot, 196-pound prospect has a solid list of scholarship offers, mostly MAC schools, and is looking to add more in the coming weeks.

Recently, Allen received his first BCS offer and several other high-level teams are closely evaluating him.
“I’ve been offered by Kentucky, Buffalo, Miami of Ohio, Toledo, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ohio and Ball State,” Allen said. “Schools that have been in and have visited include Penn State, Michigan State, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Ball State, Purdue, Minnesota and Pittsburgh. Penn State, Purdue Pittsburgh and Minnesota have talked about offering, they just really want me on campus.”
Allen is a versatile athlete with the ability to play multiple positions at the next level.
“I plan on attending the Michigan State camp along with a few other ones,” Allen said of his plans this summer. “I might be doing Sound Mind Sound Body. Some of the MAC schools that have offered me can see me playing both ways, but most schools see me as a safety.”
Allen has visited MSU multiple times over the last year and he has developed a good rapport with the Spartan staff.
“I have contact with Coach (Terry) Samuel and Coach (Harlon) Barnett. Michigan State is definitely a dream school of mine and it would put them at the top of the list, no doubt,” Allen said.
Allen is currently running track for Churchill as a sprint and the relays. Those evens should serve him well when it comes to getting ready for a big senior season. Last year, Allen’s play was a key reason why the Chargers reached for the state playoffs. The goals are higher this year and Allen and his teammates are seeking a conference title.
Over the years many defensive backs have earned MSU scholarships at a program’s camp. Players such as Jalen Watts-Jackson, Arjen Colquhoun and even Trae Waynes had to perform well at camp before earning an offer. If Allen runs a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash and vertical jumps 3-plus feet, he could make it an easy decision for the Big Ten champs.
