Saline High School junior Ryan Estrada, a three-sport athlete, died Saturday, according to a post on the school’s athletics website.

Estrada was a lineman on the football team, a heavyweight wrestler and a thrower on the track and field team.

“He will be missed dearly by his friends, coaches and teammates,” Saline athletic director Kirk Evenson wrote in a post on the athletics website. “Our thoughts are with his family! Ryan will forever be a Hornet!”

Estrada was found unresponsive in a locker room Friday afternoon before wrestling practice, according to the Saline Post.

“Fellow teammates quickly contacted staff who began treatment. EMS arrived at the scene and continued to provide support for Ryan,” Saline superintendent Scot Graden wrote in a statement Saturday, according to the Saline Post.

“Ryan will be remembered for his humor, his big smile, his love of University of Michigan athletics, and his gregarious personality. Our hearts and thoughts go out to Ryan’s family, friends and teachers.”

Graden’s statement did not include a cause of death, according to mlive.

A gofundme.com memorial fund has been set up to help the Estrada family pay for funeral and medical expenses. As of Sunday evening, more than $8,000 had been raised toward a goal of $15,000.

Saline football coach Joe Palka tweeted: “We talk not about wins but the enjoyment of being together each day. Cherish each minute. We did with Ryan. We will miss your smile big guy.”
