Hunter Rison
Last weekend, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio and his staff hosted one of the players they expect will have a big impact over the next few years in East Lansing — Ann Arbor Skyline wide receiver Hunter Rison. The son of Spartans legend Andre Rison is looking to make his own mark in the Green and White.
Rison was one of the early commitments to the Spartan class of 2016 and his presence has certainly been a positive for other recruits. The Rivals.com 4-star recruit has been a top performer at multiple camps and combines over the last 18 months. He said he was amazed by the experience of the Michigan State-Michigan game at Spartan Stadium.
“Definitely the unity among the players this season,” Rison said about what stood out most. “We aren’t used to losing, but to see that everyone still has each other’s back through everything speaks volumes about the character of our players and coaches.”
Rison has been around MSU a lot over the past two seasons and he has developed a strong rapport with the staff and several current players. The coaches have seen him perform well at summer camp and no doubt believe he has the ability to challenge for early playing time.
“Yeah, have to work hard, though,” Rison said.
After winning three Big Ten titles in six years, 2016 has been a transition season for the Spartans. One thing that has become evident is that Dantonio is going to play the best players regardless of class. Rison’s strong work ethic should serve him well as he makes the transition to college football.
Rison looks forward to suiting up for his college head coach.
“He is the same down to earth guy he’s always been. I can’t wait to play for a guy like that.”
Rison will be back on campus several more times over the coming months. Not only will he continue to build rapport with the coaching staff, but he will continue to help recruit other players to East Lansing
Spartans offer defensive end
MSU is looking to add some more talent to the defensive line and on Tuesday, Washington St. John’s College’s Kofi Wardlow was extended and offer. Wardlow already has a very solid list of offers which includes Maryland, Pittsburgh, Boston College and Virginia Tech. He is closing in on 20 scholarship offers and his play this fall should move him up the recruiting rankings. I was able to catch up with him shortly afterwards and got some details on his recruitment.
“It’s a big time offer they have been recruiting me for a while, so it’s good to finally have them pull the trigger. Coach (Ron) Burton is my recruiter and I have to talk with my parents about it (visit).”
MSU would love to see another player from the D.C a area join the Green and White. The last player to come from that region was linebacker Darian Harris, who went on to become a team captain and help lead the team to two Big Ten titles.
