Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett 41, Melvindale ABT 16: Connor McCarron was 15-for-21 passing for 278 yards and four total touchdowns, three passing and one rushing, for University Liggett (9-0). Jackson Walkowiak caught seven balls for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Charles Caine caught six passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Melvindale ABT is 4-5.
Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood 30, Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes 0: Jalen Allen ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries for Cranbrook-Kingswood (7-2) during the Catholic League Prep Bowl C-D championship game. Kobi Russell caught four balls for 91 yards. Chris Smith had two forced fumbles, one sack and one tackle for loss. Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes is 6-3.
College hockey:Troy Terry scored twice to help lift No. 6 Denver past Michigan State, 3-1, at East Lansing. Tanner Jaillet made 19 saves for Denver (4-2). Mason Appleton scored for the Spartans (0-4).
Cross-country: The Grand Valley State men’s and women’s teams won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships at Big Rapids. The Lakers’ men won their 15th straight conference crown, and the women earned their 16th consecutive league title. The Lakers men were paced in the 8K run by Zach Panning (24:30.3), Chris May (24:59.4) and Nate Orndorf 25:03.3) in the 2-3-4 positions. Saginaw Valley finished second overall. For the women, the Lakers’ Kendra Foley earned runner of the year honors with a 6K finish of 21:08.9. Hannah McIntyre of Hillsdale was second (21:45.7). Lakers head coach Jerry Baltes was named men’s and women’s coach of the year.
