River Rouge, the Free Press’ No. 1-ranked team in Division 4 football, has forfeited its opening game to Chelsea.
It is believed Rouge, now 1-1, used an ineligible player. Rouge coach Corey Parker did not immediately return calls by the Free Press and the Michigan High School Athletic Association typically does not comment on action taken against schools.
But tonight, the MHSAA’s website lists Rouge’s record as 1-1.
Rouge opened the season by defeating Chelsea, 34-16, in a game that was halted late in the third quarter following a 2 1/2-hour weather delay.
The Panthers routed Ann Arbor Huron, 70-0, Thursday night.
Last season Rouge advanced to the Division 5 final before losing to three-time defending champ Grand Rapids West Catholic.
Earlier this week, West Bloomfield forfeited its Week 1 victory for using an ineligible player.
